Lumiere Light Festival
For my family and I, going to Lumiere has become kind of a tradition. It's a display of light-based artwork in Durham, and walking through the city feels almost like a treasure hunt for light. It's on every 2 years, and here's some photos that I took of it this year (there was a lot more than this but I didn't get to see it all)...
I'll start with what many people think of when Durham is mentioned

Overlooking the River Wear: the river banks glowed and the Cathedral was lit up against the dark sky. I always love the view from the river and with the purple and red it looked amazing!
The underneath of the viaduct: it was lit up with changing colours, and here are my 2 favourites...
Projected on the castle, as seen from Framwellgate Bridge: a video of a moon looking around was displayed. This was quite cool to watch and I actually sat looking at it while eating my tea!
Through the streets up to the market square and up to the Cathedral: archways of light were hung up overhead - I really liked these as they gave Durham kind of an early Christmassy feel!
Suspended over the river: a series of continuous lines of light made up objects that moved around slowly in circles. This was one of my favourite pieces at Lumiere this year; I just thought it was so clever and mesmerising at the same time!
St Oswald's Churchyard: coloured glass lit up and hung from a tree. Shimmering light from this shone along the path below, looking really pretty :)
St Oswald's Church: shattered glass hung from the ceiling, casting amazing coloured shadows across the church walls (I think my parents and I stood and gazed up at this for a good 5 minutes). This was definitely one of our favourites!
Market place: a huge crown made up of tiny little lights that looked like jewels. I loved this one. All of the bright colours which made up the crown made it look so bold against the dark sky. With it being right in the middle of the city I think it became one of the main attractions - everyone I know that went got a photo inside of it.
