10 Things I Love About Winter

As Winter's nearly over, yet it seems to be getting colder and snowier, I thought I'd reflect on some of the things I've enjoyed about this season.

1. Boots

One of the things I love about this time of year has got to be getting out my boots to wear again. There's just something about them that smartens up a whole outfit while still allowing it to be casual. In this picture I'm wearing chelsea-style boots from Dorothy Perkins which were just over £20. They're actually really comfy and can be worn with so many different types of outfits. I'm definitely going to be taking them into Spring with me!

2. Warmer Clothes

Cold weather means wearing everything cosy, from slouchy jumpers to big fluffy scarfs.

Here's a jumper that I got from Topshop. I like to wear it tucked into black skinny jeans with a black belt. It's so comfy for snowy/rainy days in, but also chic enough to wear out to a nice meal!

I just love coats and every year there seems to be new styles to pick from, so I got this one for my birthday (from Oasis). You can't really tell in the photo but it's kind of a navy but can look like a petrol blue or black with the way it reflects light at different angles (I thought this was quite cool).

... And this one for Christmas (Miss Selfridge). This one's great for when it's slightly milder weather, since it's not as warm as the blue one and it's tighter so I probably wouldn't wear a big jumper underneath. Oh and look at the colour!

For Christmas I got this gorgeous scarf (from Pieces). It's huge and can be wrapped around so many times, making it 100% the warmest item I own! Also, I absolutely love to wear this colour, you'll probably see it again and again in pictures of me and future blog posts.

3. Hot Drinks

Is there anything better than a nice hot drink when it's cold outside? It's just so soothing and the cold weather is a perfect excuse to indulge. My personal fave has to be hot chocolate, although flavoured coffees are growing on me after I tried a pumpkin spice latte!

4. Cosy Film Nights

There's something I find really calming about finishing the day, all cosied up in a blanket, watching a film - especially when it's cold and frosty outside. Obviously, the Christmassy films are some of my faves and I watch them countiess times, but at the moment I'm loving the Kingsman films and I'm planning on watching Maleficent on the next rainy day.

5. Ice Skating

Something that my flatmates and I have quite taken to is ice skating! We've found it such a fun activity when you just want to get out and do something for a few hours, and I think they all find it funny when I try to do tricks and end up on the floor... but who cares, right?! Although we'll probably continue to go ice skating throughout the year, something that I love about Winter is the open-air ice rinks which play Christmassy music, surrounded by twinkling lights and Christmas markets - it's all so festive!

6. Snowy Trees

At first, the leaves almost look golden as the weather gets colder, making the view out of my window 100% prettier. Then the snow covers the branches and the leaves are crunchy on the ground. I just love it! I haven't got a picture but I'm determined to get a nice pretty one next year.

7. Sunsets

Another thing about Winter is the amazing sunsets that we get! I tend to take a picture of the sky nearly every time there's a colourful sunset but here's just one of them...

8. Pumpkin Spice

I know this craze has been around for years but I've only just caught onto it! Pumpkin spice tends to be put in coffee most of the time and I'm not a massive coffee drinker, but my mam bought Baileys Pumpkin Spice at Christmas and I love just a tiny bit in hot chocolate. The best thing is now it reminds me of Christmas whenever I drink it and it's great for keeping cosy on wintery days! (And how pretty is the bottle?!)

9. Countdown to Christmas & Christmas

I couldn't miss out Christmas, of course! Something I really look forward to when it starts getting colder is knowing that Christmassy decorations will start to appear in shops and gradually more and more festive songs will be played. I just love the whole Christmas prep, exploring markets and decorating the house... and my family's yearly trip to see Fenwick's window while shopping! The lead up to Christmas also happens to involve a few family/friends' birthdays as well, so I can never get enough of the whole festive spirit! Here's a picture I took at a Christmas market in 2017...

10. The New Year

And of course, to finish the year, New Year's Eve/Day. Although it means another year over, it's always been a heartwarming tradition in my family to all watch amazing fireworks displays from around the world on TV, sing and see the new year in together with family and friends. It's a great chance to reflect and set new goals, just like many people do through their New Year's Resolutions

So that was what I love about Winter, but I can't help being excited about the warmer weather!
